Convention Information

Our program at the 2008 Republican National Convention brought young people from around the country to St. Paul and gave them face-to-face contact with some of the top leaders of the Republican Party.

For example, participants had breakfast with Karl Rove, lunch with anti-tax leader Grover Norquist, and special presentations from House GOP Leader John Boehner, Platform Chair Congressman Kevin McCarthy, and the national media director for Senator John McCain's Presidential campaign.

They participated in events with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and rising young Republican leaders of the House of Representatives including House Chief Deputy Whip Eric Cantor, House Budget Committee Leader Paul Ryan, and House Ways and Means Committee Leader Devin Nunes and other Republican leaders.

Here's what some of them have said about working with GOP Youth Convention:

"I could not have asked for a better experience. I was blown away the first morning…the whole week was jam packed with enlightening and politically influential speakers, politicians, and national leaders. In order to attend the convention I had to miss a few days of school; however, I learned more from these days than I could have in an entire semester of Government. The GOP Youth Convention was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I will not soon forget!"

"The GOP Youth Convention provided me with the opportunity to meet and listen to many political icons. The workshops taught provided me with skills and knowledge that I will always be able to use."

"What I liked about the convention was that we not only had our own speakers, but we were able to attend some of the other talks with others attending the convention (Education Forum, South Carolina Breakfast). This mix really gave us a chance to ask questions to some of the leaders of the party, while also meeting some of the delegates and volunteers involved in the party. I also enjoyed being able to volunteer at some of the receptions hosted by various groups."
